Founded in 1999 by Simon George, a hands-on security engineer with a passion for technology, Obsidian Security has since grown into one of the UK’s leading suppliers of security, fire and access systems. Simon firmly believes that security and fire systems should be both unobtrusive yet highly effective, and this is where his knowledge of IT and security equipment really comes in, combining the best components with quality engineering at a price to meet your budget.
Fiona George joined the team in 2003, combining business acumen with experience in electronics engineering and production management. Obsidian Security now enjoys a hard earned reputation for providing innovative and cost–effective solutions to a growing customer base that includes:
Obsidian Security operates on a consultative basis, taking an analytical approach to assess the customers' needs and propose the most cost effective and practical solution.
We are SSAIB accredited for Access Control, CCTV and Intruder Alarm Systems. SSAIB stands for the Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board, which is a Certification Body that offers accreditation within the specialist fields of security services, electronic security and fire systems, in recognition of high standards of service within the security and fire communities.
We have also recently achieved CHAS accredited contractor status, which is the leading health and safety pre-qualification scheme in the UK.
We also have Achilles accreditation, which benchmarks suppliers against best practice, typically required for working with utility companies.
Energy usage is often overlooked in our industry, with many customers and suppliers alike failing to recognise the environmental impact that security and fire systems can have.
We strive to make sure our systems are as efficient as possible, which not only saves our customers, it’s better for the environment too. For example, we will specify solenoid operated locks for an access-controlled door, which only use power only when in operation, rather than magnetic locks which use power constantly. Alternatively, our energy-efficient LED security lighting could save up to £100 per year PER LIGHT UNIT over conventional 500W IR CCTV lighting.
"Obsidian" is a dark-coloured glassy volcanic rock, chemically similar to granite (most commonly black in colour) formed by rapid cooling of lava. It is known for its excellent protective properties in the crystal and gemstone world. The name was used in Sci-Fi programmes 'Blakes7' and 'Star-Trek' where the Cardasian security force was known as the 'Obsidian Order'. It was formed into arrow heads (as our logo) and other cutting tools by early man. Still currently in use in cardiac surgery as well-crafted obsidian scalpel blades have a cutting edge many times sharper than high-quality steel.
